A Doll Afternoon at the Library!

Ivy walked through the front doors to the library with a bag full of items! She was meeting her friends, Mia and Lindsey at the library to make a stop motion with their dolls! She had brought her camera, along with her tripod. The girls had discussed which dolls they were going to bring ahead of time, so that nobody brought the same one.

“Where are they?” Ivy thought to herself as she glanced at the time on her phone. “It’s already ten minutes later than when we were supposed to meet.” She sighed, hoping she would see her friends soon.

Ivy thought she heard a noise and turned towards the front doors. Just then, Lindsey was skating through the front door! “Hey Lindsey!” Ivy waved to her friend. “So sorry I’m late, Ivy. I left on time, but Mr. Tiny got out again because my brother didn’t close the door behind him when he went to get the mail. So I ended up having to chase him down the block on my skateboard trying to catch him.”

“Oh my gosh! How awful! Is he okay?” Ivy asked with concern. “Yeah, he’s fine. But in the process of everything, Ethan had stolen my scooter to try to catch up with him. Then we got into an argument because I don’t like anyone else using my scooter. Brothers.” She scoffs. “He thought because I had my skateboard, that my scooter was up for grabs.”

“But! Look who I brought!” As Lindsey turned around, Ivy was pleasantly surprised to see not one, but two dolls that her friend managed to bring for their project. “Wow! How did you manage to skate here with both of them in your bag? Did they fall out?” Ivy asked.

“They were fine. I stuffed them in my bag pretty well to make sure they were safe. I know we agreed on one doll each, but I really wanted to bring another.” “Where could Mia be? She’s a half hour late.” Ivy looked at the time on her phone again. “I think she had practice today, maybe she got held up?” Lindsey suggested.

Just then, the front doors to the library opened again and Mia ran over to her friends who had been waiting. “Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry I’m late! I got held up at practice again. The janitor is out sick, so Coach asked me if I could tidy up before the hockey game tonight.”

“Don’t worry, Mia. We’re just happy you’re here now. Were you able to bring one of your dolls?” Ivy asked. “Yeah, I brought one. Where are we planning to shoot our stop motion at?” Mia replied. “I actually know of a great place, follow me!” Lindsey chimed in.

Lindsey lead her friends to a quiet and secluded corner of the library for them to work. “When I come here to work on homework, this is usually where I sit. Nobody will bother us here.” Lindsey said.

They then got to work! Ivy set up the camera on the tripod, while Lindsey got out the two dolls she had brought. Mia started posing the dolls in the right position on the floor with Lindsey’s help.

Once everything was set up, the girls started working on their stop motion. Ivy took the photos and repositioned the camera when needed, while Mia and Lindsey moved their dolls.

Once they finished, they gathered around Ivy’s laptop while she imported the photos to edit into a stop motion.

Then, Lindsey had an idea. “Wait- what if we were to-“ she was cut off by someone watching them just a few feet away. The three girls turned when she began to speak.

“Excuse me-“ She said. “But are those American Girl dolls that you’re working with?” “Yes they are.” Ivy said “do you like them?” “Yes I do. Well…I used to. I had a doll when I was little. I’ve been wanting to maybe collect them again but, I don’t know anyone in my age that does.” Emily said sadly.

“Do you think…maybe…I could watch you all work on your project?” Emily asked shyly. “Of course you can!” Mia replied. “We’ll show you our dolls too!” Mia chimed in.

Emily walked over to the dolls that were on the table, “oh my gosh, I remember these! I had Kirsten growing up, but I always wanted Felicity.” “You know, we never caught your name.” Lindsey said. “I’m Emily!” She replied.

“Emily, why don’t you join us for when we make our next stop motion? You can bring your doll too. We’d really love to have you.” Mia smiled. “Yeah! It’ll be so fun to add another friend to the team.” Ivy added. “We’ve learned that you can enjoy this hobby at any age. But having friends with the same hobby makes it even better.” Mia said. “Wow, that’s so kind of you all. Thank you so much, really. I’d love to join you next time!” Emily was overwhelmed with joy.

The end! Stay tuned for the next part!
